How To Effectively Work From Home During The Covid-19 Outbreak
A few simple steps to allow working from home to be effective
There is a high probability that in the coming months you will have to either/or self-isolate & work from home.
To try and maintain a normal, healthy routine where you can to make your day as productive as possible we've compiled a few tips (in no particular order) to help you achieve this:
Get up at the usual time you would if you were to go to work. This keeps your normal routine and does not disrupt your sleeping pattern. We also recommend doing the same things you would do if you were ‘getting ready’ for work such as a home work-out, shower, get changed, make your lunch, have breakfast etc.
Sit on a chair at a table and set it up so it resembles your office desk.
Ensure your communication with your colleagues and managers mimic your work culture which will help reinforce to yourself you are still working even though you are at home. This could be through phone calls, skype, or any other software that facilitates communication.
Write down your goals/to do list for each day such as “organise your work computer documents” or “finalise your presentation”. This is a simple task which will result in productivity.
Take 5-minute breaks every 30-45 minutes. This is a good way to relax, stretch and break up tasks.
Prioritize your house keeping. Having a tidy house can actually improve your mood and lower stress levels which in turn can help your productivity at home. Include these tasks into your daily schedule and goals.
Set real work hours. Make sure that you are giving yourself down time when work finishes. It can be easy to let work overtake your home schedule, however, make sure you identify how many hours you have worked, switch off and start to do what you would normally do after work.
