Food Safety

Food safety is one of the most crucial elements of a hospitality business. Without strong supervision of food handling, the impact on your customers health and your business reputation could be detrimental.

From Friday 8th December 2023, any food service business that handles and serves food that is unpackaged, potentially hazardous food, and ready to eat are required to comply with Standard 3.2.2A - Food Safety Management Tools.

These changes affect all food service areas and food service staff in Clubs and Pubs including: cafés, bistros, functions, and dispense bars that prepare and serve food.

Under Standard 3.2.2A - Food Safety Management Tools, you will need to implement the following:

1. Have a qualified Food Safety Supervisor reasonably available to supervise food handlers.

2. Ensure all food handlers are trained in food safety and hygiene, or can demonstrate adequate skills and knowledge.

3. Keep a record of important food safety information or be able to show food is safe.

It is important you ensure all food handlers in your venue have undergone training in food safety and hygiene or can demonstrate adequate skills and knowledge. It is also critical to implement record-keeping processes proving the safety of food, as well as having  a qualified Food Safety Supervisor reasonably available to supervise food handlers.

Barringtons have developed an Online Food Handler Training program that covers the importance of food safety in keeping people safe, as well as achieving and maintaining compliance with laws and regulations to avoid legal action and protect the reputation of the business. This online program can be completed at any time and takes 15 minutes to complete.

As a result of these new standards, it is expected that Food Safety inspectors will be out in force, early in 2024. We highly recommend implementing a plan now to ensure you are compliant.

This plan should include Food Handler training to ensure that Standard 3.2.2A is met and an independent Food Safety Review will also assist in identifying any gaps in your procedures and processes. The plan should also include training more staff to hold their Food Safety Supervisor Certificate to ensure adequate coverage on shifts.

Get ahead of the inspectors, be proactive and book in your Food Safety Review with Barringtons.
