Always wanted to work in the great outdoors? Become a gardener or a landscape, nursery or horticultural assistant with Barringtons’ Certificate II in Horticulture.  Learn how to identify plants and trees, treat weeds and pests, implement environmentally sustainable work practices and work safely to reduce injuries.

The course itself is made up of 15 units - five of which are core units and ten of which are elective. The mandatory modules are as follows:


  • AHCPCM201 Recognise plants 
  • AHCPMG201 Treat weeds 
  • AHCPMG202 Treat plant pests, diseases and disorders 
  • AHCSOL202 Assist with soil or growing media sampling and testing 
  • AHCWHS201 Participate in work health and safety processes

The remaining elective units can be chose from a wide range of course areas including how to operate basic machinery and equipment, how to plant trees and shrubs, participating in workplace communications and providing information on products and services.

What do you need to know?


There are no prerequisites for entry into this Barrington’s qualification course. The training runs for a duration of 12 months for participants that are already working full time. However, it can be completed at different durations based on personal obligations and pre-existing skill sets.


The training itself can be delivered in a combination of ways. Online options are available as well as in-person sessions. Having the option of blended delivery ensures the training works around your schedule.


Upon completion of the course, participants will receive a Certificate II in Horticulture AHC20416 or a Statement of Attainment for competencies completed. This certification may gain recognition of your studies towards the Certificate III in Horticulture.
